Regarding Photobucket

I have come to the conclusion that it is no longer a usable image host for us anymore.

I'm sure everyone has already noticed by now that photobucket has decided to flood all our image links with an unsightly placeholder image about upgrading the account to enable 3rd party hosting. But for anyone that doesn't know anything about it yet; Photobucket has decided to make some changes to their ToS, where now after you exceed the bandwidth limit for free accounts, they disable your images posted outside their website and ask you to upgrade. (And apparently it was never even announced before they made this change.) Since then, this change has been gradually affecting anyone that's been using them to host their images. That included us too. :c

Now for us to regain the ability to use them for 3rd party hosting, the photobucket account would have to be upgraded. But we would also have to pay for it every year, and the amount they're asking for is a quite a lot. But personally - regardless of how much they asked for - I don't believe they even really deserve to be given any money at this point.


With photobucket no longer being an option, this did mean that our images would have to be moved to somewhere else. I even spent some time looking around and thinking it over as much as possible. In the end, none of the other sites I checked seemed to really fit our needs in this situation. (A lot of them would just break the functionality of our Calc, since links would no longer be consistent for places like Imgur or Dropbox.) So I've decided to give a web host a try instead.

Thankfully it looks like it's been working out okay so far! I already replaced the image links for the VictoryGreymon and ZeedGarurumon theme several days ago, so that everyone could at least view the site properly in the meantime. This does mean that I'll have to replace a lot of old links to the new ones, which is going to take some time! So until I get that done, the other themes won't look right for a little while. (Plus profiles, digivices, the Digidex... basically every image link that was posted around the forum, and whatever is hiding in the Master Calc. Ahahaha... :'D )

Along with there already being a lot of work to be done as it is, I know that this is going to be a little tough. But I'm hoping that you guys will support me as I work on getting things in order again, and really do appreciate your patience! <3

Getting some help would definitely be appreciated! Once more progress is made to replace all necessary links, it's still possible that I might miss a few. So having everyone keep an eye out for any broken images, and point them out to me, will be really helpful. c:

I did end up catching a cold and wasn't feeling too good earlier, so I wasn't able to get any work done. But I'm feeling much better now thankfully, and should be able to get back to working on things around here!

I'm guessing Imgur or some other hosting site would be a better place for image hosting than photobucket.
You could just make folders for the necessary things, items, digimon, NPCs etc on imgur to keep everything organized and easy to find. But yeah, if there's any help needed with that. Don't hesitate to ask us c:

The Staff of DDC, Staff Poll Skin, and Seraphimon and Ophanimon themes have been fixed up! Since I started with the default theme that just so happened to be at the bottom of the list, I've been working my way up from there, haha. We'll see how soon I get up to Gallantmon. 'x3 (I also got the first page of the User Database fixed up as well.)


Imgur would have been nice to use, yes. But because of how they assign random names to all images that get uploaded to their site, it didn't seem practical for us to use, since nobody would be able to type the names of the images they wanted anymore. It would require more clicks to look for and grab that image directly every single time we needed something. And for the Master Calc, I'm pretty sure that would also call for tons of new lines in the code to even assign all the individual Imgur links, compared to now where it only needs to add a name at the end of the link.

Their terms has also made me reluctant to try using them. As quoted from their "stuff not to do" section.

Also, don't use Imgur to host image libraries you link to from elsewhere, content for your website, advertising, avatars, or anything else that turns us into your content delivery network. If you do – and we will be the judge – or if you do anything illegal, in addition to any other legal rights we may have, we will ban you along with the site you're hotlinking from, delete all your images, report you to the authorities if necessary, and prevent you from viewing any images hosted on Imgur.com. We mean it.

Which is pretty weird considering what they do, but honestly I'd rather not risk it at this point. o__o;
